Not Asleep Not Awake

Will used to talk in his sleep alll the time, but he's been silent lately. Or maybe I'm just not awake to hear it. He has, however, been saying a lot of crazy things before and after he sleeps. It's like a half-awake/half-dreaming state. I find it hilarious and he rarely remembers what he's saying.

What do you need from me? Money?

Ech: If you were dead, I'd have to close your eyes like this. [Doing the magical hand wave over his eyes like in the movies.] ... What are you doing? If I were dead you'd check by knocking on my back?
Will: No, I'm pumping your system.
Ech: From my back?
Will: You're so dumb. Imagine like you were a jet.

Ech: I thought we were going to cuddle.
Will: I'm cuddling you with my presence.
Ech: *silence*
Will: [opens one eye] No? *sighs* Give me your hand.

He said the following after we had an intense tickle fight (my way of waking him up) and a full awake conversation about what we were planning to do for the day. We were walking down the stairs and I assumed he was fully awake until...

Do you want to tell me what type of dream I had last night? [Said in the most accusatory tone I've ever heard in my life]

After I was done laughing he just mumbled something about not knowing what he was saying. Then he offered to cook breakfast but just opened all the cupboards and stared blankly into them for 5 minutes.

My husband can spend hours on Netflix. Not watching anything. Nope. Just looking for something to watch. Usually I'll end up grabbing the remote from him and choosing because he's just so indecisive and picky. But yet if I choose something he's content to watch whatever I put on.

Will and Netflix
This is one of those times I let him look for 10 minutes before I made a choice for him.

I've just discovered that if I'm on Netflix on my ipod and he's upstairs on the PS3, I can use my ipod as a remote and play things on the tv. I thought I'd freak him out when I figured this out...nope. I waited for a "What the f....?" or a "What's going on?" or a "Are you doing this!?" But not a peep. He just watched in silence as I played an episode of Malcolm in the Middle. I even skipped around in the episode to see if that would get a reaction. Nope. I had to ruin my own joke by yelling up there to make sure he was awake. So lame.

Zombies in the Morning

Sometimes I think really weird stuff. For instance...
The other day Will had to go on base to get his GOV license renewed and pick up some certification card on base. As usual I woke up first so I gave him a little shove to wake him up. He whined and complained as usual. Then hid his face and fell asleep again. I'll admit, I drifted off slightly too. Eventually I forced myself to wake up, opened my eyes, and turned to give him a good shake. But this stopped me in my tracks....

Ech & Will
On one hand, this can't be safe. I'm severely concerned of chance he could suffocate himself sleeping like that. On the other hand...what if I woke up in a scenario like The Walking Dead? What if I pull his head back and it's zombiefied? I'm definitely not strong enough to crack his skull with my fists and there's nothing even close to resembling a weapon up in our bedroom. So I'd be screwed!

I think that I need to take a break from The Walking Dead. Although I'm really looking foward to the next episode. I feel like the first two episodes back from break have been draaaaagging. To me, nothing really interesting happened until the end of the second episode.

First Things First

First thing I do at the gym
It's a two-parter. 1) Check out the boys. 2) Check for people I know. It's a double scan happening at the same time. The boys thing I can't help, it happens no matter what. The friends thing is more of a on purpose thing.
First Date with Current Significant Other
Our first honest to goodness date...just me and him going out, not ordering in or hanging out in his room...was at Outback. I was trying to take him out for his one year anniversary in the Air Force, but he was a sneakface and paid when I wasn't looking. By that time we had been long distance dating for a few months and were completely comfortable with each other so there's no real story to the date.
First email address
Woooooow. I have no idea. I think maybe That's the first one that I can remember. Or maybe of those.

Life Plan

I was reading a recent post on Amy's blog and it got me thinking.

When I was growing up I always thought I'd meet my husband in college and get married after graduation. I'd have my first kid by 25 and be done by 30 to 35. When I got to college age, I wanted to throw up at the idea of getting married anytime soon. In fact I straight out told my friends I would consider it a failure on my part if I got married before 25.

20 year old Ech not at all ready for marriage or babies.
But then I met Will and I was right on schedule for my original "master plan". We've been talking about having kids since we got married, but I think we're more serious about the idea now. I'm 26 now so I'm a little behind on my original baby making schedule. How weird is that though? 20 years ago I had a plan in mind and it kind of worked out.

PS - If you don't read Amy's blog yet, go check it out! She's one of my favorite bloggers!

Valentines Past

I was so excited for my first Valentine's Day with Will. I never experienced the day with a boyfriend and I was thrilled! It was kind of a bummer that he was in Alaska and I was in Oregon...but I still had hopes of a semi-romantic day.

I got a text. "Happy Valentines Day" That's it. I was actually thrilled with it until I found out he sent the exact same text to his ex. Cool.

I was still in Oregon working in admitting in the emergency department and trying to pick up all the extra shifts I could. My regular shifts were graveyard shifts every other week. The rest of the time I was covering any open shifts. Morning, swing...anything. So I was constantly trying to adjust my sleep schedule...aka I was always sleeping.

Will kept hinting that I would be getting a big surprise for Valentine's Day. Unrealistically, I was hoping he'd show up on my doorstep to surprise me. Realistically I thought he sent a card. In reality, I woke up to a delivery man with a gorgeous bouquet of red roses. I didn't even care that he woke me up in the middle of my sleep schedule. I was over the moon! It was the first time a boy had bought me roses.

Valentine's Day Roses

Will spoiled me rotten on our first Valentine's Day as a married couple. I was on day shift and he was on swings so he came to the hospital where I was working with a bouquet of roses and to have lunch with me. I wasn't expecting anything else but he hinted that I'd get more surprises when he got off work. I don't know where he hid it, but when he got home he brought out a Nook for me! I had given him a pair of Beats by Dre headphones. This was back when they were just starting to get popular so at the time he was the only one of his friends who had a pair.

I had to take an unexpected trip to Hawaii for a family emergency so we didn't get to celebrate together. Will wanted to switch it up and send me orchids and chocolates. But he chose a crappy company who not only delivered the wrong flowers (roses) they also arrived half dead. I appreciated the thought though. Before I left I ordered him the latest UFC video game as a distraction from missing me and a V-day gift, but it arrived late. It was kind of a bust of a day, but we tried.

Have you seen our pictures of Lake Barcis? (here and here) Gorgeous right? Well Mama didn't get to see it. There was a big rainstorm while we were on the cruise/in Rome and Florence so the lake was looking all stirred up and not so impressive.

Mama joked that we had faked all the pictures we posted on Facebook. I promise, it's normally breathtaking and crystal clear. The water was a bummer, but the leaves were out in all their gorgeous fall glory. It was so pretty in the park areas with all the beautiful colors.

Yes, I know I'm still posting about Mama's visit. We traveled a LOT while she was here so I'm still trying to catch up on all the pictures and blogging about each place. Bear with me, I'm getting there.

Dear Will,

I loved Valentines Day with you this year. Maybe we only spent an hour together, but it was a good hour and we were together so that's all that matters. It sucks that you're working these 12-13 hour days and I appreciate that you woke up in the middle of our sleep schedule to surprise me. You tricked me with the whole "Work sucks, I have to go in and do my travel vouchers." You sneaky sneakerson. That Cinnabon was the best surprise. Did I ever tell you that Lindt chocolates were my favorite or was that a guess? I don't remember dropping hints, but you did really good on that one. And those nail polishes you got me were perfect! I guess that must be a hint to do my nails hmm?

I still can't believe you thought I'd really tape up an old Cheez-Its box and give that to you as a present. I also can't believe you didn't notice it was too heavy to be Cheez-Its. I love love love that you gave me a thank you kiss as if you didn't care. I fell in love with you all over again in that moment. The look on your face was priceless when you realized there was a shirt and Dead Space 3 in there.

How great is it that we can still surprise each other? Just when I thought I could predict what you'd do, you throw me off. We only got an hour together before we had to pass out again. But I don't care. It could have been 15 minutes and I still would be happy. I'm just happy your TDY got cut short and you're back in Italy with me.

Valentine's Day Linkup

Linking up with Sel & Hallie

1.) How did you meet your significant other?

My seester was stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base at the time of her 21st birthday. I was in my last semester in college and I flew up to celebrate her birthday. Will was one of her friends from the dorm she was living in at the time and she invited him to her dinner and hotel party.

2.) What/where was your first date?

It wasn't an official date or anything, but the day after Seester's birthday she had to take her then boyfriend to the ED and ended up being gone all day. Will came to keep me company and we ended up going to the park to watch some friends play a pick up game of football. When Seester came back we all ordered food and watched movies. Unconventional first date, but a fun day.

3.) What's your best relationship advice?

I wouldn't say I'm the best person to go to for advice. I guess maybe listen to your friends. They see the things you're too close to see.

4.) What is your most embarrassing moment in front of your SO?

I'm always doing something embarrassing in front of him. Supposedly I told him I loved him after we were dating for a month. I fell asleep while we were talking on the phone. He didn't realize it and he swears I told him I loved him. I was horrified that I would say such important words so soon and without realizing it. Good thing he didn't freak out and dump me.

5.) What most attracts you to your SO?

He makes me laugh. It was the first thing that made me notice him in the first place and somehow he can still dissolve me into a fit of giggles.

6.) If a movie was made about your SO, what actor/superhero would play their part?

That's a tough one. I honestly have no idea.

The One Time I Got Snowed In

All this talk about the blizzards in the NE and the snowfall here reminds me of the time I got snowed in. There was a crazy snow storm(ish) right around the time I graduated from college. My roommate (Clark of Captain and Clark) and I had small cars so we couldn't get out of our driveway after the city plowed the roads and created a wall of snow in our driveway. (And by wall I mean a speed bump sized wall.)

Anyway our other roommates were gone and we were stuck by ourselves going stir crazy. So we did what any normal ladies in their 20's would do. We got dressed up and had a two person party. And by dressed up I mean dressed up like we were going out to be seen. I burned a LOT of calories dancing around our house like a crazy person. We also ran outside and had a quick photo shoot in the snow.

That night is one of my all-star top memories from college. Every time it snows and sticks I laugh just thinking of how much fun we had.

Stop by Captain and Clark's site. Their travel videos are informative and entertaining and they're both dear dear friends of mine. Oddly enough, they have yet to meet Will. Hopefully we'll be fixing that problem next month.

"Walking" in the Snow

Every time it snows I have the urge to go for a walk in it. Last time it snowed, it was rain/snow so I just took pictures from the window. Yesterday I couldn't fight it. I had to go outside.

Will was taking a nap before work. I was suuuper patient and took a few photos from our doorway. But it wasn't enough, so I threw on a fleece and my Uggs and ran out to our courtyard to take pictures out there. Well...snow = super cold so I ran to the carport, snapped a few more and ran back inside.

Ech & Will: Snow!
I love our house!

Finally I couldn't take it anymore. I ran upstairs and jumped on the bed until Will got up and came outside with me. Again, snow = super cold. Did we remember this? Nope! (If you watch Archer, imagine Lana saying it haha!) I ran out in the same outfit, except this time I remembered a hat. Will begrudgingly followed me out in just a hoodie. He thinks he's so tough because he was stationed in Alaska for three years.

Ech & Will: Snow!

We didn't even make it across the street before the wind and borderline frostbite turned us back. This morning it was pretty much all melted. Thank goodness. I was not looking forward to driving in that slushy/icy mess.

Can I just say I'm so happy I have my mister back again!? I have someone to take pictures of me again!

Sticking Snow!

Will hurt his shoulder while on his TDY and it was still bugging him so I made him call the doctor's to make sure it wasn't something that needed more than just rest. It was snowing all morning, but it wasn't sticking. After his x-ray he practically ran to the car grumbling about how cold it was and the snow was stupid for being cold and not even sticking. Well...he's going to get a surprise when he wakes up from his nap! I peaked out the window and was shocked to see white on the ground.

Ech & Will: Snow!
View out the window
As soon as I saw white on the ground I practically ran out the door with the camera. Thank goodness I stopped before hitting the doormat because I wasn't wearing jacket or shoes. But I admired the crap out of the pretty snow from the doorframe!

Ech & Will: Snow!
View from our door!
Of course now I'm going to be super paranoid about his drive to and from work. (See Pessimist to understand why.)

Happy Dance!

Guess who's baaaaack!?!?!?

He begged and begged for me to pick him up from the airport so he wouldn't have to catch the bus back to base. He promised he and his friends had permission to drive back with me. I told him to ask ten times because I wasn't going to drive an hour just to have to drive back by myself because they wouldn't let him come with me. Well the leadership that was on the TDY with them said yes, but the person who came with the bus said no. Luckily, the day he came home was a gorgeous day and there wasn't any traffic. So I was only mildly annoyed instead of stressed out and fuming. I had a feeling it would happen because I've never heard of the military or a church group or a school who would allow their passengers to leave with whomever for liability reasons.

It was only a little longer than a month, but I got really used to his not being here. It's a bit of an adjustment for both of us. For me, having another person around. For him, being home and helping out around here. I got a couple movies off iTunes (Looper & Here Comes the Boom) so we could have some relaxing movie dates and enjoy some alone time. For the record, we liked both movies a lot.

I finally unpinned a new pin from my Pinterest boards. My kitchen was starting to smell a little funky so I checked my Pinterest boards to check for a solution.

I peeled three oranges and added 1/2 tsp of cinnamon. There were no clear cut instructions on how much water or oranges so I just winged it. I filled the pot halfway with water and squeezed the juice from the oranges in the mix for good measure. My hands now smell deliciously of oranges.

The scent around the house is subtle. I think the concoction needed more orange peels. I also have a lemon and rosemary scent pinned. I'm going to have to try that one too.

In general, I try my hardest to be as optimistic as possible. I really do try to remind myself to look for the silver linings and upside to everything. Obviously, I fail sometimes...but I try.

EXCEPT...when it comes to my husband. If he works late or he's on TDY and I haven't heard from him when he says he's going to call or text I immediately think of the worst case scenarios.

Maybe he got hurt at work and can't call.

Maybe he got hurt really really bad and is unconscious and no one thought to let me know.

Maybe the car he was in was in an accident and all his friends who know how to contact me were with him and now no one will get a hold of me for days.

From then on it's a constant battle between two parts of my thinking. Half of me is freaking out. The other half is like, "Calm the f--- down you freak! That jerk probably just forgot to text you that he's going out after dinner or is working late or doesn't have an internet connection to call."

I do the same with my mom sometimes. In fact not too long ago I read a story about an Asian woman found in a Portland river. (News Report) Of course I immediately called my mom just for some peace of mind. Of course she didn't answer. I held back from calling my aunt and her work to check with them. Eventually I saw that she had signed onto Facebook and I got her on the phone later that day. But that night...I was gearing myself up for the worst and talking myself down at the same time. It was awful. She found it thoroughly entertaining when I told her my concerns.

First Things First

Linking up with Halie & Hallie

1. First Trip Out of The Country
I went to Juarez, Mexico on a missions trip with my church. This was before all the violence befell the city. It was such an eye opening trip.

Playing with some local kids in between building a house.

2. First Major Purchase on Your Own

I guess my education. My dad cosigned, but I'm the one paying for it. But in terms of things, my X360. I saved up and bought it with my employee discount when I was working at Hollywood Video.

3. First Thing You Learned to Cook

Top Ramen. I love the stuff so it's no surprise that Mama taught me how to make it myself when I was 9 or 10. Or maybe rice in a rice cooker.

Scrubbing My Life Away

I got out of bed at 5 a.m. and decided to be productive. Since I forgot to buy dish soap, washing dishes was out. So I grabbed a bucket, a pair of rubber gloves, a sponge, and all the scrubbing brushes I own and headed downstairs. I wouldn't eat off any surface in the bathroom, but I'd definitely touch it without gloves and walk barefoot on the floor. (I wear house slippers so that's saying something.) I used a grout brush and went to town on the floor. I got it down to a livable beige instead of brown. Ideally I'd like white, but my wrists hurt and I refuse to scrub any longer. I also scrubbed the shower...let's just say I normally surface clean and I fought the urge to throw up when I scrubbed the shower door tracks and chunks of who-knows-what started flowing out. And of course I wiped everything down, even the walls.

I'd love to give you pictures, but it's still dark out and the lighting is HORRIBLE in there. And let's face it, you really can't tell. But I can. When the sun comes up I plan on moving along to other rooms to dust and sweep. For now I'm catching up on my favorite blogs and relaxing.

Noon Update:
I went to the commissary and stocked up on food. Then I went to the BX and did a little retail therapy...for my husband. I came home did the dishes, scrubbed the stove, and wrapped the mister's V-day present. I used Rachel's super awesome present wrapping method. She's a genius!

The island of Murano is located in the Venetian Lagoon. Mama loves Murano glass so she was especially excited to visit the island. We caught the train to Venezia and then a water bus to the island. It took a lot of skill and confusion to read those water bus maps, but eventually we figured it out. We spent the day on Murano and walked through Venezia at night from Piazza San Marco to the train station.

Wrestling With My Gate

Our gates on a much nicer day.

If it's really windy, our electric gate won't swing closed because the wind will keep it from shutting all the way. Today has definitely been a windy day. The new bar managers next door have been coming and going through our gate a lot all month so I didn't think much of the flood light going on and off all night. But then I realized that the lights were all off next door and the gate between our properties was closed tight. They have a tendency to leave our gate open (and of course keep theirs shut tight) so I often have to run out to turn the gate  sensor around to keep people from wandering through. Not a big deal, people respect our things...but still. Anyway, I ran out to turn the gate sensor and it already was! I have no idea how long the gate was supposed to be shut, but I had to do something because it was continually triggering the flood lights. It would start swinging shut and a gust of wind would blow it back open before it could lock in place.

I had to use the gate key to manually shut the doors. Except I had to turn the key and push at the same time. If you look at the picture, the right door is really wide so trying to push and turn is really a two person job. Add on a really strong wind. Yeah it would have been super comical for anyone watching. I'd get it partly shut...then the wind would shove me back. Eventually I timed it right and locked it in almost all the way shut. A person could get through, but they can't steal our stuff and our lights won't be going off and on all night.

Fingers crossed this storm will blow over soon!
